The USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® allows customers to schedule a first-time passport application appointment and passport photos at a participating Post Office™ facility. 

You may also schedule a passport application and passport photo appointment using the self-service kiosks at a Post Office location.

USPS does not schedule appointments for passport renewals. Please see https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html for information on renewing your passport. 

Please note: USPS employees do not have the ability to create, edit or cancel appointments on behalf of customers. You may edit or cancel the appointment by clicking the link in your confirmation email, or by going to the USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® on usps.com and entering your confirmation number.

Scheduling a First Time Passport Appointment

To schedule a passport appointment online:

 

  1. Visit the USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® (www.usps.com/scheduler) and click "Schedule an Appointment".
  2. Complete all required fields marked with an asterisk. 
  3. User will enter their contact information to verify identity
  4. Select verification method: text or email to receive a 6-digit verification code
  5. Enter verification code and select "Submit" within 3 minutes
  6. Click "Review Appointment".
  7. Review information for accuracy and select "Confirm Details"

NOTE: If you have Informed Delivery you already completed Identity Verification during your account setup. You can skip steps 3-5 by logging into your USPS.com account prior to scheduling a Passport Appointment. 

To schedule an appointment on a kiosk:

 

  1. Select "New Passport Only" or "New Passport with Photo Services." 
  2. Enter the number of adults and/or minors for the appointment.
    • Note: There are additional requirements for passports for children under age 16 and applicants age 16 and 17.
  3. Select the desired location from the list.
  4. Enter your name, phone number and email address.
  5. Confirm that the information on the screen is correct.
  6. A hard-copy receipt is provided by the kiosk terminal. You will also receive a confirmation email and (if requested) a text notification.

To Schedule an appointment by phone:

 

  1. Customers may call 1-800-275-8777 and schedule passport appointments through the IVR by saying "passport appointment" when prompted with the question "How can I help you?" at the beginning of the call. 
    • Appointments for up to 6 applicants may be scheduled through the IVR."
  2. USPS employees do not have the ability to schedule appointments over the phone (or in the Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler®) on behalf of customers.
The cut-off time to schedule a same-day appointment is 2 a.m. Central Time on the day of your requested appointment.

You will receive a confirmation email immediately after you book your appointment and a notification email 24 hours before the appointment. Emails will come from Auto-reply@tracking.usps.com. Should you need to cancel or change your appointment, you can do so by clicking the link at the bottom of the email or going to USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® and entering your confirmation number and email address or phone number.

Necessary documents

A list of necessary documents will be listed both on the USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® website and within the confirmation email. All necessary forms are viewable on the travel.state.gov website.


Will I be able to schedule an appointment online at all Post Office™ locations?

No. Online scheduling is currently only available at participating Post Office locations. Use the Postal Locator on USPS.com to determine if your local Post Office™ facility offers passports by appointment.

How long will a passport appointment take?

An appointment should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on if you need a passport photo taken. For family appointments, add 15 minutes for each additional family member.

Are photo services available?

Yes. Photo services are available for use in passports and other forms of identification for a $15 fee payable at select Post Office locations. Find Passport Appointments and Photo locations here.

How far in advance can I book my appointment?

Customers are able to search for/schedule appointments up to 4 weeks from the current date through the USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler®.

How can I book a family appointment?

The number of appointments will depend on the family size. There is a 6-person limit. Customers booking family appointments will choose the number of family members in need of appointments and the USPS Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler® will provide a block of multiple 15-minute appointments to adequately service all family members. For example, a family of four will need a 60-minute appointment block.

Can I schedule an appointment for someone who is not a family member?

No. Customers are not allowed to make reservations for non-family members.

Modifying or Canceling an Appointment

Where can I find my existing appointment?

  • Customers are able to view their appointments:
    • In the confirmation email
    • From the Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler®, select Manage Appointments. Enter your appointment confirmation number and the phone number or email address you used to create the appointment.

Can I cancel my appointment?

  • Yes. The confirmation email will have the choice to 'cancel' or 'edit' the appointment as well as schedule a new appointment. 
    • Appointments can be cancelled up to the day before the appointment using the confirmation number provided.
    • Customers will receive an email confirming cancelation of the appointment. 
    • Same day cancelations can be made by contacting the local Post Office where the appointment was scheduled. The Post Office name and location can be found in the confirmation email.

Can I change the time and/or location of my existing appointment?

  • Customers can edit the time of their appointments from the confirmation page and email. However, to change the appointment location, customers will need to first cancel the existing appointment and then schedule a new passport application appointment at their desired location.
    • Appointment times can be edited during the scheduling process within the Retail Customer Appointment Scheduler and again at the confirmation screen prior to completion.
    • Successfully scheduled appointments can be edited up to the day prior to the appointment using the edit/cancel link in the confirmation email.
    • If the customer is unable to make edits to their appointment electronically, they can schedule a new appointment and contact the local Post Office directly to cancel their existing appointment using their confirmation number.

What if I am late to my appointment?

  • If you are more than 5 minutes late, your appointment may be forfeited. Please try to be 10 minutes early for your scheduled appointment.
NOTE: Passport appointments cannot be viewed, edited or canceled without the confirmation number. If you do not have a confirmation number, please schedule a new appointment.
