USPS® Premium Forwarding Services provide residential and business customers flexibility and control over where and when you receive mail. Premium Forward Service® is a paid service, designed to provide temporary forwarding of all your mail on a weekly basis via Priority Mail® or Priority Mail Express®. Options include: Premium Forwarding Service Residential®, Premium Forwarding Service Commercial® and Premium Forwarding Service Local®.

 

Premium Forwarding Service-Residential®

Premium Forwarding Service - Residential® (PSF-R) is a paid service available for domestic addresses only, designed to provide temporary forwarding of all customers mail on a weekly basis via Priority Mail®.

PFS-Residential gives residential customers and certain PO Box™ holders the option of having all of their mail shipped on a predictable basis to a temporary address while they are away from home.

  • For a one-time enrollment fee and a nominal weekly shipment fee, virtually all of the customer's mail will be packaged weekly and sent by Priority Mail® (PM) service to the temporary address. Some items, such as Registered Mail® and Priority Mail Express® (PME) are shipped immediately upon receipt at the Post Office™. PFS-R can be used for a minimum of two weeks or up to a maximum of one year.
    • Note: If a customer would like to continue PFS-R service beyond a year, they may submit another request.  
  • PFS-R provides customers an additional option to the current piece-by-piece temporary forwarding and Hold Mail services.

 

PFS-R Fees, Restrictions and Additional Charges

 

PFS Basic Fees

In order to use Premium Forwarding Service Residential, you must pay a one-time enrollment fee, either online or at your local Post Office, and a weekly shipment fee during the time period that you are using the service.

USPS Tracking® and Other Accountable Mail Sent Via PFS-Residential®
USPS Tracking®, Accountable Mail, Priority Mail Express® service, and other mail pieces that require a scan or signature are not included within the weekly Priority Mail® service shipment for Premium Forwarding Service Residential®. These items are individually readdressed to the temporary address, scanned as “forwarded”, and rerouted to the temporary address subject to the following:

  • Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage® – Retail parcels, USPS Ground Advantage® – Commercial pieces, and Periodicals parcels are rerouted separately at no additional charge.
  • USPS Marketing Mail® parcels are rerouted separately and charged postage due at the appropriate 1-pound USPS Ground Advantage – Retail price.
  • Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail®, and Library Mail pieces are rerouted separately and the mailer charged postage due at the appropriate single-piece price for the class or subclass of mail in which the piece was originally shipped.
  • Parcel Select pieces are rerouted separately and the mailer charged postage due at the appropriate USPS Ground Advantage – Commercial price.

PFS-Residential Restrictions

  • A Hold Mail request or Forwarding Order, temporary or permanent, may not be active simultaneously with enrollment in PFS.
  • PFS cannot be combined with any ancillary or extra services beyond those purchased by the original sender.
  • PFS Residential is available only to and from customers with domestic addresses.
  • PFS is not available to or from an APO/FPO or DPO as mail sent to an APO/FPO or DPO is subject to certain conditions and restrictions.
  • PFS Residential cannot be used when the temporary address is within the 969 3-digit ZIP Code™ area or is otherwise in a U.S. territory or possession that requires a customs declaration.
  • There can be different PFS Residential applications on file for multiple individuals from one primary address. However, there can only be one PFS Residential application on file when the request is for an entire household from a primary address to a single temporary address during an enrollment period.
  • For customers whose primary address is a PO Box, only the box customer is authorized to initiate the application and “Entire Household” must be designated on the application.

PFS is not available for:

  • Individuals whose primary address is a size-three, size-four, or size-five PO Box™. Residential customers who use these PO Box™ sizes due to the unavailability of smaller boxes may request a waiver of this restriction.
  • Individuals whose primary address is a business delivery address.
  • Individuals whose primary address is a central point to which the United States Postal Service® provides delivery in bulk to a third party, such as a commercial mail receiving agency (CMRA), RV park, trailer park, or hotel.
Additional Charges

Additional charges may be applied when you have a Premium Forwarding Service – Residential in effect.  This can occur due to mailpieces that have to be shipped separately or items mailed with postage due.

 

Mail Shipped Separately

Mailpieces that require a scan, such as Accountable Mail, pieces with USPS Tracking and Priority Mail Express® service, are not included within the weekly Priority Mail® service shipment.  The same is true for mailpieces that do not fit in the shipment container.

Mailpieces that do not fit in the shipment container or that require a scan or signature at delivery are scanned (when applicable) and then rerouted separately to the temporary address, subject to the following:

  1. Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail®, USPS Ground Advantage®-Retail, USPS Ground Advantage pieces and Periodicals parcels are rerouted separately at no additional charge.
  2. USPS Marketing Mail® parcels pieces are rerouted separately and charged postage due at the appropriate USPS Ground Advantage-Retail price.
  3. Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail, Library Mail, and Parcel Select pieces are rerouted separately and charged postage due at the appropriate single-piece price for the class or subclass of mail in which the piece was originally shipped.

Note: To avoid incurring postage due charges, you should have USPS Marketing Mail parcels, USPS Ground Advantage-Retail, USPS Ground Advantage, Package Services, Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail, and Library Mail sent directly to your temporary address.


Mail with Postage Due

Postage due items at the Post Office™ that would deliver mail to an address where a PFS request is in effect are not shipped in the weekly Priority Mail® service shipment. These postage due pieces are rerouted to the temporary address individually as follows:

  • First-Class Mail®, USPS Ground Advantage, USPS Ground Advantage-Retail, and Priority Mail items are charged only for the original postage due amount.
  • Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail, Library Mail, and Parcel Select pieces are rerouted postage due at the appropriate single-piece price for the class, or subclass, of mail the mailpiece was originally shipped plus the postage due amount already indicated on the mailpiece.

 

PFS-R Refunds

 

The Premium Forwarding Service Residential® (PFS-Residential®) enrollment fee is nonrefundable even if the customer terminates service early.

Refunds may be available for those customers whose shipments were not processed in a given week, were charged, and did not receive the shipment. All refund requests are reviewed for eligibility.

NOTE: The following are not eligible for a refund, at any time:

  • Enrollment fee
  • Weekly shipping fees, unless pre-paid at Retail and unused
  • Delayed shipments

 
PFS-Residential® at Retail

Refund Request for Service Termination: If you pay for the service at Retail, you prepaid the weekly shipping charge. If you request that your Premium Forwarding Service Residential® ends early (cancel the PFS-Residential®), the Postal Service can refund the portion of the weekly shipment charge that was prepaid, but has not been used.

For example, a customer who terminates PFS-Residential® early (e.g., a customer prepays for 10 weeks but returns to a primary address after 8 weeks) may request a refund for any unused weekly shipment charges from the Post Office™ facility serving the primary address.

To request a refund, start by contacting your primary Post Office™ facility (the Post Office where you ordered PFS-Residential®) and fill out PS Form 3533, Application for Refund of Fees, Products and Withdrawal of Customer Accounts, Modified With Barcode, and present a valid form of Acceptable Forms of Identification.

PFS-Residential® shipments are placed in the mail each Wednesday, so you must cancel your request by close of business (COB) on Tuesday to receive any prepaid fee refund.

If you request a refund for early termination, you will be issued a no-fee money order right away.

Remember: ONLY the portion of the weekly shipment charge that has not been used is refundable.

Refund Request for Service Issue: Contact your Local Post Office™ facility to file a service complaint and request a PFS refund. You will need to fill out Form 3533 and present a valid form of Acceptable Forms of Identification.

If you request a refund due to a service issue, your request will be processed in 2-3 business days. Processing may take longer if additional information is needed. Once your request is processed, you will be notified via phone or email if your service-related refund request was approved or denied.

If approved, you will be mailed a no-fee money order to your primary address. The refund covers any shipping fees, only.(Enrollment fees are not refundable) Handling fees are not refundable.

PFS-Residential® Online

Early Service Termination: If you enroll in PFS-Residential® using the Online application, the credit card designated to process the weekly shipment fee is charged weekly. You can stop the PFS-Residential® shipment and future weekly shipment charges by going online and updating your information. 

Timing: If the service is not stopped before the weekly fee is charged, that fee is not refundable. In order to cancel without getting charged for the upcoming week, you must cancel your PFS-Residential® enrollment by Monday at 11:59pm CST. If you do not cancel the PFS-Residential® enrollment before Monday at 11:59pm, CST, your credit card will be charged the weekly shipment fee and there are no refunds for this fee. 

Refund Request for Service Issues: You can submit a refund request for PFS-Residential® created online by following directions on the Global Refund Page.

To request a Premium Forward Service Residential® (PFS-Residential®) refund, you must provide, at a minimum:

  • The Order Number for the weekly shipment(s) you wish to refund;
  • The reason for the refund request; and
  • The specific PFS-Residential® shipment you are requesting the refund for (please, include dates).

Request a PFS Refund

Your request will be processed in 2-3 business days. Once your request is processed, you will be notified via email if it was approved or denied. Processing may take longer if additional information is needed. If approved, please allow up to 2 billing cycles from notification for a refund to appear on the credit card associated with the account.

Checking Your Online PFS Refund Status: If you submitted a refund request for the PFS-Residential® order made online, you can check the status of your order at your convenience by viewing the order in your Activity History

 

 

Premium Forwarding Service-Commercial®

Premium Forwarding Service - Commercial® (PFS-C) is a domestic service for business commercial customers who receive mail at different business PO Boxes or business street addresses. This enables businesses to consolidate their operations and plan for any additional staff they may require for processing incoming mail volume.

 

Getting Started with PFS-C / MyPFS Portal

Businesses interested in using PFS-Commercial must first sign up through the Customer Onboarding Portal (COP). They can then enroll in USPS Ship with a valid payment account and permit to pay for PFS-Commercial service and postage. 

PFS-Commercial Features:

  • There are no weight restrictions for PFS-Commercial that differ from the normal Postal Service™ weight restrictions.
  • A customer can request to have mail reshipped up to as many days of the week that mail is normally delivered — Monday through Saturday. 
  • Customers pay postage through their USPS® Ship account which is linked to the Enterprise Payment System (EPS).​

MyPFS User Portal:

MyPFS is the user portal for PFS-C customers to submit Service Requests, manage service inquiries, and access PFSC-related FAQs.

  • MyPFS is available through the My Products Portal in Business Customer Gateway and within the existing PFSC application dashboard.
    • Customers accessing MyPFS through the PFSC application will see a MyPFS link at the top of their dashboard.

PFS-C Payment and Service Issues
  • For issues with payment and postage, customers can contact USPS Ship by email at USPSShipSupport@usps.gov or by phone at 877-264-9693.
  • For concerns pertaining to PFS-C service, customers can create a Service Request from the MyPFS dashboard or contact their local Postmaster.

 

Premium Forwarding Service-Local®

Premium Forwarding Service Local® (PFS-Local) allows residential/individual and business/organization Post Office Box (PO Box) holders the option to have the USPS gather their mail addressed to their PO Box for delivery to their street address, when both addresses are within the same local servicing postal facility. An annual enrollment fee is required, and a reshipment fee is charged for each reshipment container. 

 

  • Customers can select the frequency that meets their needs, Monday-Saturday.
  • All shipments are sent via Priority Mail. Customers pay a per container fee based on the volume of mail.
  • Email notifications are sent to the customer regarding reshipments or when there is no mail available to forward.
